Discover our Story

Mark Heyn is the owner, breeder and primary trainer of South Dakota Shepinois. Protection and family are two traits that make up his core. His passion to protect is found in his public service positions that include firefighting, law enforcement, and time in the Coast Guard. He is also a Tae Kwon Do world champion, Constitution Coach, and loves the Lord. Breeding and raising Shepinois for protection dogs is simply in his nature.

Mark chose the Shepinois breed thanks to Dennis Blocker. Dennis was a contracted trainer and handler for the military and used this magnificent breed. Our primary dame, Victoria, is the granddaughter of one of Dennis’ war dogs. The talent, skill, and true heroism of this bloodline deserve to be celebrated, remembered and continued.

As a father, part of Mark’s responsibility is to protect.

Protection comes in many forms. Our Shepinois’ are a tremendous protection tool. For Mark’s family of 7, he also wants their protection dog to be the family dog. That is exactly what you will get with a South Dakota Shepinois. A beloved member of the family who is ready to step in when needed. His family is a crucial part of the beginning obedience and socialization training, which will greatly impact your dog’s conduct.
